Surya puts on weight for Singam

Director Hari while speaking about the film Singam said,” Surya’s 25 film is Singam. The story of the film happens in town, city and village. Surya is donning a different kind of character which he has not done so far. In short if I have to say about Singam, in a single hit there will be one and half tonnes weight. Because of this Surya will become fatter. This film will have romance, action and sentiments.

The screenplay will be breathtaking as Sami and Vel. Anushka will be pairing with Surya. Prakash Raj, Vivek and Nasar will also be in the cast. Devi Sri Prasad is composing the music. Priyan is handling the camera. This is my 10th film. The shooting of the film will commence next month.”

Suriya and his special parties!

“Helping people in need is a very special kindness. Not many have it and one among them is actor Suriya,” say the associate directors of the industry.

An associate director is a person who is with the director, right from the time when the director conceives a new story in his mind. After that when it is born as a screenplay and gets filmed into the roles frame by frame... And till the first copy grows, reaches the theaters and earns the applause from the audience; an assistant will be there to support the director. In short they are the only souls after the film’s director, who gets totally occupied with the thoughts of the film. Unfortunately, they are the ones who get a meager pay for their efforts...

Looks like actor Suriya has understood this very well. The actor had earlier arranged for a grand party for the associate directors of ‘Ayan’ as the film crossed its successful 100th day mark. And after the party, the actor had gifted 20,000 bucks for each of them as an incentive.

Following this, Suriya has done the same on the sets of his ‘Singam’ as the shoot is almost over.

Suriya always stands out of circle in such activities...

Suriya, superman!

Well, our surmise that Suriya will play a superhero in a film under Mysskin’s direction is 100% correct. It became quite obvious after UTV signed Suriya for Mugamoodi to be made under Mysskin’s supervision. Now, the news about Suriya’s new avatar has started to spread. In a year to two, we will see Suriya as the “caped crusader” saving people’s lives and fighting crime and injustice. It is also said that the film will be Kollywood’s version of comic book hero Superman’s story. But speculation is rife that the story might be slightly altered to herald the arrival of a new Kollywood superhero. Well, a new genre has begun in Kollywood: our own superhero films!

This is just the beginning and there is more in the offing with director Venkat Prabhu’s attraction for Batman and penchant for being different! It might not be a surprise when he decides to do a Kollywood film on Batman or a superhero character inspired by Batman.

With the abundant talent available in Kollywood (our heroes are in no way second to their Hollywood counterparts) and new technology, it definitely possible to make good-quality superhero films in India. One good example is Bollywood film Krissh made on Hrithik Roshan. With method actors like Suriya and scriptwriters that we have today, this type of films will be given a new dimension and maybe one day Hollywood will look at us for inspiration. Quite possible! Thoughts are growing richer in Kollywood these days.

And please do not be surprised or alarmed when you see a caped man flying in the skies. It could be our method actor Suriya rehearsing for his role!

Kollywood is changing! (No pun intended) (wink wink)

Jyotika-Suriya: The philanthropic couple

With power comes responsibility seems to be their mantra. They hold a respected and powerful position in society, a position they use to put smiles on faces that direly need help. This time the celebrated couple of the city, Jyotika and Suriya, were at Apollo Speciality Hospital to commemorate Rose Day.

Their presence kindled abundant joy in young cancer patients, which was out of bounds for the general public when the couple was there. they gifted toys and other presents to these patients. Suriya was effusive in his praise of these children’s courage to battle with this gruesome disease. When the children presented a cultural programme to entertain their eminent guests, the couple was pleasantly surprised. Jyotika even commented that she learnt a few dance steps from these children.

According to Dr. Revathy Raj, paediatric haematologist at Apollo Speciality Hospital, the occasion elevated the spirits of the patients and their parents. They sure were in need of such merriment.

You too can help these kids out by gifting them or spending some time with them. Your little deed can make a huge difference in their lives.

FILMFARE HEROES: THE LAST DECADE

2008 - Suriya - Vaaranam Aayiram

Suriya was brilliant n his multi-age spectrum performance in Vaaranam Aayiram, a unique father-son story. The effort he had taken to look like the slim teenager, the cool college guy, the brawny youngster, the disciplined army officer, the middle aged dad and the aging cancer patient…. all in one movie was exemplary. It was as much for his effort as his expertly nuanced performance that the Filmfare came to him.

What defines an actor’s success? Definitely his box office success and his popularity. Well, like it or not, the awards too do count at some point of time or the other. If you have to talk about the top award that an actor can get without stepping out of the commercial circle, it definitely is the Filmfare. Let’s take a look back at the last 10 years and the winners of the coveted prize. The Filmfare Heroes 1999-2008.

Ragava Larencce turns jockey!

There is a Tamil film titled ‘Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam’ in which choreographer-director-actor Lawrence is playing a cowboy -an Indian version, though.

Also starring Sandhya, Lakshmi Rai and Padmapriya in lead roles, this one said to be a Western adventure comedy film.

Imagine Larencce in that cowboy costume, riding horses and with that carefree rough-tough attitude...

Unlike Charan, Lawrence seems to be new to horse-riding. So, the director wanted him to learn the sport first. Sources from the crew said that Larencce, Sai Kumar, Ilavarasu, Viyapuri and Sams learnt horse riding everyday in the morning in beach. Lakshmi Rai learnt the act during the time she gets between the shots and has done a great job!

Looks like this one will have a story that happens in the 18th century and will have the flavour of Mexico. No sarees or dhotis in this one.

Should say that these flicks of this genre are different from the regular stuff!

Singam audio launch in December

When it comes to technology in audio markets, T-Series remains unbeatable. Especially, as this audio company has geared up for the latest technologies of presenting audio tracks in SD cards and USB drives as well, this was well illustrated with A.R. Rahman’s Blue and Himesh Reshammiya’s Radio.

And now, T-Series is set to make their presence felt in the Tamil film Industry as well. If what we heard from the sources is believed to be true, then T-Series is all set to acquire audio rights of the best Tamil films from December onwards.

As per the buzz, T-Series is holding talks with producers of Surya starrer Singam and if things get on well, they’ll be releasing the film’s audio at a price tag of Rs.95. Of course, there will be certain additional attractions included along with the tracks.

Singam features Surya, Anushka and Prakash Raj in lead roles. The film is directed by Hari and is produced by Studio Green Production (Surya’s home banner) and Big Pictures. Devi Sri Prasad has scored music for the film.
